Few months back, Amy succumbed to peer pressure and decided to register for marathon. What was going through her mind... Amy wanted to overcome her fear. For a person who had just run once in an 100 meters and that too in Class 5, this was a brave step. For a person who hates running, this was a commendable step.
The thought was running through Amy's mind, she used to discuss with me, She needed to practice. But... !!! Then her Jagriti Yatra happened leaving no space for anyone to point out that she was lazy to drag herself out of bed to practice. ( Another post for her jagriti yatra hungama )
Come back from JY and it was time to clean up the mess that was created in her absence. Will it surprise if I say she fell and twisted her ankle. The creative firangs were creating a tree of sorts from used Aquafina bottles. As AnanK pointed out, "Is it creating more waste or what?" Jy train reached Kalyan and in a hurry to get out with the donkey load of luggage she had, she couldnt see where she was walking. She apparently stepped on the label. The placement of the label was also right by the door, she skid right into the space between the train and the platform. Well it was hilarious at the best at first, but thank god she had huge suitcases that stopped her from falling right through to the rail.
She limps to the Club Meet. She is in crape bandage for the next few days. She decides to run with crape bandage on the day of marathon? Yes you guessed it right. Deriving inspiration from Present Roomie's preparation and enthusiasm. Also the Roomie praised Amy of how active she is. Lol I am sure Amy's bro KP would also laugh along with me. So will Amy's mom. Amy was basically a very lazy kid.
She was happy to be part of marathon and all the hype around it. Created right from Aleem Bhayya to Rajan to Agashe to Shanu to Swathi. Then many of her friends were running, she bumped into many people. As far as I know Amy, for her the City is close to her heart if she bumps into people who she knows all the time. Bangalore was working very well and Mumbai has started to catch up. I know this for sure Amy has been avoiding socializing or rather spreading her social web so as not to stay back. More social connections she has here more difficult it becomes to get back to her Native.
I dont know how many names Amy took referring to the people she met. Very inspiring stories. From Worli Sea Face towards Haji Ali - She met this 50 Year old who over heard Amy saying "Why am I torturing my body?" This lady repsonds "I am 50+ and I havent had a single drop of water, So now you better run along" Amy was just too dumbstuck to reply even by a nod. Within less than a 1 Km - A Guy with Artificial limb was Running/Walking.
Amy did run about 8 kms till Worli Sea Face but may be because of Crape bandage or Bad shoes - she realized she has blisters. Till that point she had confidence that she can finish just because other can, so can she attitude. But she was loosing hope because she was panicking from inside. She had few small pebbles inside the shoe which can be irritating. God knows how it landed up in her shoe. ( No PT Usha stunts sorta story) She put her wrist band and hankie on the other to give some extra cushion. Not really it would help much, still worth a try.
As she said bye to Roomie in the Uturn, she saw AR. God sent. The same AR, she and Roomie decided to leave behind because he decided to walk. He gets all enthu, lets jog. Hahha - my thought at this juncture is same as yours - she cant last that long dude. As SDgr pointed out "Paww you have become soft" Well she always appeared as one Dude. Never thought anyone would walk along with her, esp when she is not able to walk. She developed a limp after crossing Sophia College. Some god had gotten into AR - AR was unearthyly selfless. Listening to same music, they were not able to walk but were able to dance at the same place, eat on the way. Bursting bubbles, water spray
Amy was at a look out for any railway station from the time she crossed Mahalaxmi. Even she didnt admire the serene Haji Ali. Amy's wish came true around 18th km after crossing chowpatty, Lo there was Charni Road. Adding more logic to her argument - CST mein itni gardi hogi ki yahin se train leke ghar jaate hain. AR didnt argue back, just held the back of her neck, literally pushed her - "aaram se chal but we will finish" Just then Monty and PD called "Aaj hi khatam karna hai" Swathi, Ram and Chiru had finished the race by then.
She completed it "jaise thaise" but she found her inspirations and people found her inspiring. Some effect it had on people thats the hype of Mumbai Marathon. Everyone trying to do things, come out of their comfort zone and explore, grow in life. Even if they were not running they were cheering for the crowd. Coming out of their houses, coming all the way and cheering for the participants. "Medal" for achieving the uncalled for and unimaginable for Amy. Well, even i cant believe it was over. Hats off to Amy's body which lives through the torture she put it through. Even she was too happy that it cooperated with her to finish the race. It means a lot to her. One more things off her "to do" list. And as Rachit pointed out, "Whats next climbing Himalayas???"
Lets see, I would be here to give you guys an update.
